Welcome to Betley Court Gardens, the pleasure grounds of an 18th century Georgian country house, set in the picturesque North Staffordshire village of Betley. The 10 acres of English gardens reflect the work of three centuries of landscape designers, including William Emes and William Barron.
From the romantic woodland walk that is blanketed in bluebells in spring, to the formal Victorian sunken lawn, featuring Barron’s magnificent Cedar of Lebanon and Edwardian flowerbeds, enjoy a relaxing walk, through layers of horticultural history. Witness the Brown family’s ongoing quest to restore their beloved Betley Court, after the disastrous fire of 2019, when the house was almost completely destroyed by an accidental fire.
We are currently open 12 days a year. Our list of open dates is updated as events are confirmed so please check back.
Our newly created visitors’ facilities, set in a native woodland wildflower area, provide the perfect place to rest and contemplate the wildlife in the trees. The hub is available for private hire, such as classes and meetings. Please message us for an up-to-date price list and T&Cs.
Betley Court Garden openings are supported by grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and RDA’s LEADERs scheme.
Access to the visitors’ hub is via ramps. All paths in Betley Court Gardens are loose gravel which some visitors may find challenging. The footpaths around the dingle are steep and narrow and unfortunately inaccessible to prams and wheelchairs.
